Corn starch, flours, and other thickeners are also common culprits, and even worse, I’ve seen some ingredient lists that straight-up add sugar.
If you’re on strict keto, you want to keep away from those ingredients.

This simple recipe has a host of ingredients and can be adjusted to kick up the heat if you prefer it a bit spicier. And, you have the benefit of knowing exactly what’s in it, without sneaky soybean oil, thickeners, or other non-keto ingredients.
Keto Taco Seasoning – Fresh Counts!
I’m as guilty as the next home cook of having years-old bottles of spices in my pantry.
But, when you’re making this Keto Taco Seasoning, freshness counts. You’ll get a lot more flavor from fresh spices, and the difference will be noticeable once you’ve cooked with the spice blend.
Chili powder, cumin, and paprika are pretty traditional in Keto Taco Seasoning, but this blend has a secret ingredient: chipotle powder.
With a lovely, smoky flavor and a bit of heat, this flavor-packed spice is a must in any Tex-Mex seasoning blend. The other key ingredient is cayenne. This firey hot spice can be increased to kick the heat level up to your personal preference.
Making this spice blend is simple. Just measure all the ingredients, then mix them together!
It makes about a cup, and will keep for months in an air-tight jar in a dark, dry place.
Use this instead of those commercial spice packets, and try it in recipes like this Chicken Taco Casserole or this Beefy Tex-Mex Casserole or just on Taco Tuesdays.

Oh yum!!! Can’t wait to mix a bunch of these up and give as favors at our next Taco Night!
We always make our own seasoning too. It saves so much money.
Me too, and I like that I can control what goes into them. No funny ingredients!
I can’t believe how easy this is to make! And it will make a great Christmas present too!
This is great! What a great gifting idea for a new neighbor, birthdays or holidays!!
I’ve never tried making my own taco seasoning, but it’s such a great idea.
I am anxious to to try this seasoning. I do buy store bought but its just not right. Plus it has thickener in it and most times I don’t need that. Thank you.
Feel free to adjust the spices to suit your own preference! I hope you love it!
