Food starch of some kind is in those packets, often in the form of maltodextrin which is absorbed by the body as glucose.

Corn starch, flours, and other thickeners are also common culprits, and even worse, I’ve seen some ingredient lists that straight-up add sugar.

If you’re on strict keto, you want to keep away from those ingredients.

If you’re doing low-carb or lazy/dirty keto, the few carbs per serving might be a trade-off for the convenience, but trust me on this, you can make a keto-friendly version and keep it on hand for all your taco/fajita/Tex-Mex cooking needs.

This simple recipe has a host of ingredients and can be adjusted to kick up the heat if you prefer it a bit spicier. And, you have the benefit of knowing exactly what’s in it, without sneaky soybean oil, thickeners, or other non-keto ingredients.

Keto Taco Seasoning – Fresh Counts!

I’m as guilty as the next home cook of having years-old bottles of spices in my pantry.

But, when you’re making this Keto Taco Seasoning, freshness counts. You’ll get a lot more flavor from fresh spices, and the difference will be noticeable once you’ve cooked with the spice blend.

Chili powder, cumin, and paprika are pretty traditional in Keto Taco Seasoning, but this blend has a secret ingredient: chipotle powder.

With a lovely, smoky flavor and a bit of heat, this flavor-packed spice is a must in any Tex-Mex seasoning blend. The other key ingredient is cayenne. This firey hot spice can be increased to kick the heat level up to your personal preference.

Making this spice blend is simple. Just measure all the ingredients, then mix them together!

It makes about a cup, and will keep for months in an air-tight jar in a dark, dry place.

Use this instead of those commercial spice packets, and try it in recipes like this Chicken Taco Casserole or this Beefy Tex-Mex Casserole or just on Taco Tuesdays.

Say goodbye to those spice packets with sneaky carby ingredients, and say hello to this DIY Low Carb & Keto Taco Seasoning! Try it today in recipes like this low-carb Taco Dip!

  1. I am anxious to to try this seasoning. I do buy store bought but its just not right. Plus it has thickener in it and most times I don’t need that. Thank you.
