What You Need To Make Keto Avocado Toast Recipe

  • Mini waffle makerDash makes a great, affordable product
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Almond flour – super-fine grind is my pick
  • Egg whites
  • Ripe avocado
  • Lime juice
  • Everything Bagel seasoning

What’s a Chaffle?

A chaffle is keto’s answer to bread. Made with eggs, cheese, and a bit of almond flour, they’re light, pliable, and perfect for sandwiches, mini pizzas, and more. Keto chaffles are also very versatile, so play around with the flavors to discover all your favorites!

What’s A Mini Waffle Maker?

You can make chaffles in a regular-sized waffle maker, but the mini waffle makers are the perfect size for sandwiches – which I call chaffwiches – or for snacking.

Most chaffle recipes – this one included – are scaled for use on the mini waffle maker. You will have to experiment to see how much batter it takes to make a chaffle on a regular-sized waffle maker.

How To Make Easy Avocado Toast

For a full list of ingredients and instructions, please scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of this page.

  1. Make the chaffle by heating the mini waffle maker and give it a light spray with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Whip the egg white with a fork until frothy. Add the cheese and almond flour and mix until combined.
  3. Put 1/4 of the batter onto the mini waffle maker and close the lid. Cook for 4-5 minutes or until it is light and crispy and releases easily.
  4. Meanwhile, make the avocado. Cut through the avocado from tip to bottom then twist the halves apart.
  5. Push the avocado seed out by pressing gently on the avocado skin behind the seed. It should pop out. Then scoop out the flesh and put it into a small bowl.
  6. Mash the avocado with a fork, keeping it chunky. Season the mashed avocado with salt and lime.
  7. Top the still warm chaffle with 1/2 of the mashed avocado mixture and garnish with a sprinkle of Everything Bagel seasoning.
  8. Enjoy!

How to Buy Avocados

Ever heard the expression, “here today, gone tomorrow?” This couldn’t apply more to avocados. Perfectly ripe one minute, the next they’re turning brown and yucky inside. Here are my best tips for buying and storing avocados.

  • Look for avocados that are longer, more oblong than round. They will have smaller seeds and yield more fruit.
  • Leave green avocados on the counter until they start to darken, then pop them into the fridge to slow down the ripening process.
  • Freeze leftover avocado by wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap. Just thaw and use – the fat content in the avocado keeps it safe in the freezer.
  • Avocado gadgets rarely work. The best thing to do with a cut avocado is eat it! Otherwise, cover the exposed area with lime or lemon juice and cover it tightly in plastic wrap – with the plastic touching the avocado flesh

Chef Jenn’s Tips

  • Make chaffles in batches and freeze them until you need one. Then, just pop one into the toaster and you’re all set to enjoy your avocado toast for a low carb breakfast or brunch.
  • Mix up the flavors of your keto avocado toast by adding crips bacon, a fried egg, crumbled sausage, fresh herbs, a dash of balsamic vinegar, finely diced red onion, and more.
  • Add a bit of spice with a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes.
  • Instead of mashed avocado, slice it for a different texture.
  • Eat your low-carb avocado toast as soon as it is ready – avocados don’t keep long once cut.
  • Store leftover avocado in the fridge – put it in as small a container as possible and press plastic wrap onto the surface of the avocado. It’ll keep for a day or two – just scrape off any black/brown bits before eating.
  • Don’t like chaffles? Use your favorite keto bread with this recipe.

What To Serve With Keto Avocado Toast

With just 4 net carbs per serving, this is an amazing keto breakfast recipe. Packed with healthy fats, I love serving this easy keto recipe with a side of scrambled eggs, a few strips of crispy bacon, or sausage links for extra protein. Try it with this sliced Smoked Breakfast Sausage! Sliced radishes add a lovely crunch, and try topping it with crumbled goat cheese for even more flavor. Here’s another tip: Sprinkle your avocado toast with this chips spice or French fry seasoning. It’s keto, gluten-free, and packed with flavor!

Frequently Asked Questions

How to make avocado toast keto?

Regular bread isn’t keto. Even most of the breads labeled keto aren’t really keto, if you read the ingredient label. The only real way to make avocado toast keto-friendly and low carb is to make sure that the “toast” part of this dish is a keto-friendly chaffle or another keto-approved bread substitute.

What are other avocado toast ideas?

Some of my favorite toppings include: bacon, a sunny side-up egg, crumbled sausage or chorizo, a spoonful of pico de gallo, or just a few dashes of hot sauce.

Is this avocado toast recipe easy?

You bet! The toughest part about making this keto avocado toast recipe is making the chaffles, and those are super easy to make. Make the chaffles ahead of time and pop one in the toaster, mash up your avocado, sprinkle on the seasoning, and you’re all set! 5 minutes to deliciousness!

How many carbs are in avocado toast?

Made this way, with a crispy chaffle, there are just 4 net carbs per serving. Dig in!
