Keto Blueberry Smoothies

I keep a blender sitting out on the counter with its own spot specifically for mornings like this. This keto blueberry smoothie needs only three real ingredients, unless you count the ice cubes, and it’s ready in about 5 minutes.

Blueberries run higher in carbs than strawberries or raspberries, so the portion here is deliberate, not an oversight. Almond milk and plain yogurt do the thickening instead of heavy cream, which keeps this lighter without losing the actual blueberry flavor.

Chef Jenn’s Takes On Keto Blueberry Smoothies

Blueberries get lumped in with strawberries and raspberries as “keto-friendly fruit,” but they’re not interchangeable. Blueberries run noticeably higher in carbs than either one, so a smoothie built around them needs a smaller portion of fruit to land in the same range, not the same half-cup you’d use for strawberries without thinking about it.

That’s the whole reason this recipe leans on almond milk and plain yogurt for thickness instead of heavy cream. Cream adds fat but no real help with carbs, and stacking a higher-carb fruit with a heavier cream base pushes the total higher than it needs to be. Yogurt gets you the same creamy texture with less carb cost, which matters more here than it would in a strawberry version. If you’re being strict, weigh out your blueberries rather than eyeballing the half cup, since it’s easy to go over without noticing with a fruit this small and this easy to keep pouring.

What You’ll Love About Keto Blueberry Smoothies

  • It only takes three real ingredients, so there’s nothing complicated standing between you and breakfast on a rushed morning.
  • The portion is built around blueberries actually running higher in carbs than other keto-approved berries, not just copied from a generic smoothie template.
  • It’s ready in about 5 minutes, which means there’s genuinely no excuse to skip breakfast on a busy day.

Make It A Meal

These blueberry smoothies have enough protein and fat in them to serve as a meal replacement or enjoy a smaller portion after a hearty meal. Some of my favorites include White Chicken Chili or this keto beef and broccoli stir fry.

Storage

This keeps in an airtight container in the fridge for 1 to 2 days, though the texture turns more liquid as the fruit melts. It’s still fine to drink, just give it a stir or a quick re-blend first. Not a good candidate for freezing as a finished smoothie.

Recipe Card Tips

  • Measure the blueberries rather than eyeballing them. They’re small and easy to over-pour, and they carry more carbs per cup than most other keto-approved fruit.
  • Stick with almond milk and yogurt for the base instead of heavy cream. Cream adds fat without helping the carb count, which matters more with a higher-carb fruit like blueberries.
